The second edition of St Moritz Night Turf is taking place on the frozen lake on Friday 5th February 2016. It promises to be an exciting event and and a fun night for all the family. The entire horse race track around St Moritz’s frozen lake will be illuminated so that you can watch the races and bet on your favourites too if you so wish. There will be top-class horses from renowned international stables and in addition to the horse races there will be a funfair as well!

Admission to the frozen lake is free for this evening event and includes seating on the grandstands. There will be pop up restaurants on the ice and a spectacular laser show in the night sky.

According to organiser Silvio Martin Staub, the response to this, the second Night Turf event, has been fantastic and all the VIP tickets sold out three weeks ago. The ice is in excellent condition and thicker than it has been for decades. Around 8000 cubic metres of snow were pressed on the ice sheet in preparation for the event.

The event will kick off with a flat race at 5.30 p.m. under the patronage of Rüegg Cheminée Schweiz AG. There will also be Skikjöring with grand master Duri Casty taking part, trotting races presented by BMW (Schweiz) AG including nine horses from three countries, and one horse coming all the way from Poland. There will also be the LONGINES Sprint Race in which mainly white horses like Unknown Villain, Sunndale, Eyecatcher and Someo are taking part – however, Dancing Diamond and Kakapuka from England will try to prevent a white horse victory!

Credit Suisse will present ‘Celebrity Skikjöring’ featuring top-class racehorses from renowned stables. The names of the celebrities who will be pulled round the ice track on skis by thoroughbreds at speeds of up to 50 kmph will be revealed shortly.

The best news is that admission to the frozen lake of St. Moritz and to the tent city is free of charge to all Night Turf visitors. Refreshments will be available to purchase from the pop up catering tents organised by the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz, the Crystal Hotel and the Hotel Saratz, amongst others.

After the races, don’t forget to stay and watch the spectacular light show, sponsored by the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. All in all it should be and exceptional night on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. Enjoy!
