Tanqueray Lovage Cocktails on the Rooftops of Gustav

Rooftop gin cocktail tasting at its finest, thanks to Tanqueray and Diageo …

After the first week of watching World Cup football every day, it was nice that Tanqueray had an event offering quite a tempting and tasty alternative, introducing their latest innovation, the limited edition Tanqueray Lovage. The Diageo Tanqueray event was attended by journalists, bloggers, instagrammers and other invited guests, and took place at one of Zurich’s hidden gems, the 12th floor rooftop at Gustav Restaurant & Bar.

After taking the lift up to the 12th floor and arriving at the nicely decorated rooftop where the small Tanqueray bar was the centre piece, most guests didn’t waste much time in finding the drinks menu and placing their first order.

Our barkeeper for the night was Kaitlyn Steward. Vancouver based Kaitlyn won last year’s WORLD CLASS cocktail competition in Mexico and is now lucky enough to travel the world doing what she loves, serving great tasting cocktails and sharing her passion for better and more responsible drinking with fellow barkeepers.

Which cocktail would you choose? High & Dry, Gins & Roses, Green with Envy or the Breakfast Club? These were the tempting drinks on offer and all skillfully created by Kaitlyn using Tanqueray gin and when possible local spirits and locally sourced seasonal ingredients.

Once all guests had arrived Kaitlyn introduced us to Tanqueray Lovage, Tanqueray’s new star player, highlighting what makes it stand out from other gins on the market. Tanqueray Lovage is a very aromatic gin with a notable savoury and balanced flavour and is the first gin containing garden herb lovage, among other botanicals.

With Tanqueray’s history stretching back to 1830 one can safely assume that by now the company knows a thing or two about gin. In fact Tanqueray has won an award for being the most popular gin amongst barkeepers.

Now the formalities were out of the way, the real show began and our skilled barkeeper demonstrated how “easy” it is, (or at least can be), to make the four gin based drinks on offer. She made it look so straightforward that I attempted to make my favourite drink of the night, the Breakfast Club.

For all who would also like to try making my favourite, here’s a list of all the ingredients. Once you’ve mastered it, feel free to invite me…

The Breakfast Club Gin Cocktail

4,5cl Tanqueray London Dry Gin

1,5cl Galliano-Liquor

2,25cl fresh orange juice

0,75cl lemon juice

Egg white

2 dashes orange bitters

Method: Pour all ingredients in a champagne glass and decorate with some orange zest or a dried slice of orange.
