The Hotel Storchen Zurich Gets a Refit in 6.5 Weeks!

Hollywood created a film called 9 1/2 Weeks but at the Hotel Storchen they’re going for 6 1/2 weeks for their latest project! One of Zurich’s most popular hotels, the Storchen closed on 3rd January and will be emerging beautifully refurbished on 20th February 2017. In fact they too are making a short film of the refit of the Hotel Storchen to recount the story of this important phase in the life of the hotel – 6 1/2 weeks.
The schedule is ambitious and if they don’t make the deadline the General Manager Jörg Arnold has vowed to jump into the freezing cold waters of the River Limmat! Let’s hope for his sake the hotel will open on time!

The hotel which is currently 4 stars, will become even more luxurious and beautiful and will ascend into the 5 start category. Not only will all the fabulous rooms (those facing the river have unbelievable views of the Limmat and the Grossmunster!) be given a new lease of life, but so will the Barchetta, the Rôtisserie restaurant and first floor Storchen Bar, and the main entrance will move from Weinplatz to directly in front of the water.
Last Saturday they held an “Abriss Party” where guests dressed in jeans and warm jackets and were kitted out in hard hats and taken on a tour of the construction site.

Gerry Hofstetter, the famous lighting artist was directing the film which will document the 6 1/2 weeks, and had bathed the party room in beautiful coloured lights which reflected outside onto the River Limmat.
The beginning of the transformation was celebrated in a party atmosphere with music and DJs, and hot food and drinks. We wish the Storchen all the best and can’t wait to see the newly transformed hotel!
