The Big C: why Zurich’s own Dr Caddick is swapping her stethoscope for cycling shorts next summer

As a GP supporting the expat community in Zürich for many years, Angela Caddick has had more experience of cancer and its effects than most, so when the opportunity arose to join 3 other ‘rather unfit 50-something mums’ on a 355km fundraising cycle challenge from Milan to Venice, she didn’t hesitate.

Inspired by Bravery of Cancer Patients

Inspired by the bravery of cancer patients and the new-found freedom of no longer having kids at home, Angela, Nicky, Jeanette and Siri will be training hard on the hills and beautiful bike paths around Zürich to prepare for the Women V Cancer challenge beginning on 7 May 2020. With just three days to cover over 350km, this is no sightseeing trip, and as most of the riders haven’t cycled more than a couple of kilometres in over 20 years, there’s work to be done!

All Money Goes Directly To Three Cancer Charities

All the team members are covering their own costs in full, so all the money raised through sponsorship and donations will go directly to the three supported charities: Breast Cancer Now, (RCN: 1160558), Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust (RCN: 113354/SCO41236) and Ovarian Cancer Action (RCN: 1109743).

Time is Precious and Life is a Gift

Speaking to NewInZurich, Angela told us how she’d felt overwhelmed by the level of interest and practical support from friends even at this early stage. “Our fundraising target is quite ambitious, but we hope people will dig deep for cancer research as we know this is a disease that will touch all of us either directly or indirectly at some time. Cancer reminds us that time is precious, our health is a gift and that we all need to enjoy the ride whilst we can – quite literally in this case!”
