Alan Geaam’s Lemantine Restaurant at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace
Alan Geaam’s Lemantine restaurant at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace has just opened and runs until 30th September. I had the pleasure of meeting Alan at the St Moritz Gourmet Festival in January and I was bowled over by his amazing cuisine. As well as being one of the most talented chefs, he is the friendliest person ever you could meet and always quick with a joke and a smile.
Lemantine – Traditional Lebanese Cuisine à La Suisse
The Michelin starred Lebanese chef, who is based in Paris, will be cooking with chef Frédéric Gardette and his team. The Lemantine pop up restaurant at the Fairmont combines traditional Lebanese cuisine with a selection of recipes which have been revisited using Swiss products and Swiss know-how. The Lemantine pop up takes place at the Fairmont Montreux Palace between 15th June and 30 September.
The menu features a number of amazing mouthwatering Mezzes and sharing plates as well as delicious main courses and fabulous desserts.
Alan Geaam – From Beirut to Paris
Alan Geaam was born in Beirut, Lebanon. Growing up in Lebanon, he was exposed to the vibrant flavours and the rich culinary traditions of the Middle East. However, his path to becoming a Michelin starred chef was not straightforward. After initially pursuing a career in finance he decided instead to follow his culinary dreams and headed to France in 1999. He started from scratch, taking on various lowly jobs in restaurants and learning everything about French cuisine. His dedication and hard work paid off. A lucky break, when the chef he was working for had an accident in the kitchen enabled Alan to step in and take over in the kitchen and this first step paved the way for his career as a chef.
With lots of hard work and his innate talent, success followed, and in 2007 he opened his first restaurant, “Alan Geaam.” Located in the heart of Paris, his restaurant quickly gained popularity for its innovative approach to French cuisine, blending traditional techniques with a modern twist. Geaam’s emphasis on flavours, textures, and presentation attracted praise from both critics and diners.
Alan Geaam – A Michelin Starred Chef
The turning point in Geaam’s career came in 2018 when his eponymous restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. This prestigious accolade solidified his position as one of the finest chefs in Paris. Geaam became the first Lebanese-born chef to receive a Michelin star, a significant achievement that has brought him international recognition.
Following the success of his first restaurant, Geaam expanded his culinary empire. He opened another restaurant, “L’Abysse,” specializing in Japanese cuisine with a French twist. L’Abysse further showcased Geaam’s versatility and his ability to experiment with different culinary traditions and he now has four restaurants.
Throughout his career, Geaam has remained true to his roots, incorporating flavours and influences from his Lebanese heritage into his dishes. He believes in the power of food to bridge cultures and bring people together.
Our lunch at the Lemantine Pop Up Restaurant at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace was simply sensational. The flavours, texture and colours were amazing and I will remember this meal for a long time. Here are just a few glimpses of the dishes we tried.
We even had Lebanese wine served as an accompaniment and it was very good indeed.
