Christian Hümbs Pop Up At The Studio Zurich
Christian Hümbs, the renowned pastry chef from Germany, who previously worked at The Dolder Grand is now bringing his delectable treats to central Zurich through his pop-up store at The Studio in Zurich’s Seefeld area. We popped by the other morning shortly after 11am when Christian’s freshly baked goods had just gone on sale and were amazed to watch as they were literally flying out of the door like “hot cakes”!
Franzbrötchen
Hümbs is famous for being a judge in the TV baking competition “Das Große Backen” for ten seasons, and now he is showcasing his sweet creations in his adopted home on the Limmat. The pop-up store is located at “The Studio,” a renovated bar owned by Ringier behind the Zurich Opera House, and will run until the end of February 2024. If you haven’t been there yet, we highly recommend you do. But one tip, arrive there early or you may well be disappointed!
Chocolate Cake
The pastries are available from Tuesday to Friday and you can choose from around eight tempting cakes and pastries. The range includes classic treats like carrot cake, lemon poppy seed cake, chocolate cake, banana bread and chocolate brownies with pecans and cranberries.
Lemon Poppyseed Cake
Christian also bakes a specialty from Hamburg called “Franzbrötchen”.
It’s a kind of Danish pastry filled with cinnamon and sugar, and it is, he told us, the most popular item in the shop! He uses a very special cinnamon powder which he imports specially from Berlin!
The banana bread and chocolate cake are the next most popular in the shop and are incredibly moist and irresistible.
I couldn’t help but buy myself a slice of the very indulgent chocolate cake – and can confirm it really is heaven for chocolate lovers! Apparently though, the chocolate cake tastes even better on the second day!
Banana Bread
At the moment Christian is selling individual pastries or slices of cakes but from around the middle of May you will be able to purchase whole cakes at “The Studio”- which will be perfect for birthday and other celebrations.
Chocolate Brownies
For dessert lovers in Zurich, The Studio is the perfect opportunity to indulge in Hümbs’ scrumptious treats. The pop-up store is located at Dufourstrasse 23, 8008 Zurich, and interested customers can find more information on the official website of “The Studio.”
