Fabulous Summer Dining On The Terrace
at the Baur Au Lac in Zurich
What could be nicer than dining in the heart of Zurich, close to the lake and surrounded by beautiful gardens? We recently visited the newly refurbished Terrace at the Baur Au Lac in Zurich to see the new look. We were there to celebrate my husband’s birthday and had an absolutely wonderful evening.
This little oasis in the heart of Zurich is conveniently located just a stone’s throw from both Bahnhofstrasse and Bürkliplatz. The terrace is lined with beautiful deep blue hydrangeas and there are lots of little tables with sunshades and in the centre a large navy parasol underneath which there is lots of cosy comfortable seating.
As you look out on to the vast beautiful gardens leading up to Bürkliplatz, the setting could not be prettier.
To your right is the river, again with plants and flowers lining the edges.On a Summer’s day it’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of Bahnhofstrasse and relax with a glass of ice-cold champagne or a refreshing cocktail, or to have lunch or dinner with a perfect view.
We were a party of three and after a delicious glass of the house champagne (the extensive wine list is curated by Baur Au Lac Sommelier World Champion Marc Almert) we began with the Octopus Croquettes and the tuna from the the “Sharing is caring” section of the menu.
There are also Dumplings from “Madame Sum” on the menu too. We didn’t try them this time but they look and sound pretty amazing! One is with pulled duck, foie gras, shiitake mushrooms and Szechuan pepper, the other variety is with chard and black truffle.
Next we had delicious sides of sea bass, Wagyu burger and corn fed chicken and we all enjoyed our choices!
As side orders we had truffle fries (we ordered 2 portions for the 3 of us, but one is really sufficient!!), spinach and a salad.
The hotel kindly presented the birthday boy with a lovely chocolate mousse dessert with a single candle in the middle (there was no way the true number of candles would ever fit!!!).
To accompany it we also chose a delightful lime and strawberry dessert which was as delicious as it was beautiful.
Throughout we had wonderful and very friendly service from our waiter Nicholas.
So whether you’re going for a special occasion or just as an everyday treat, a visit to the Terrace at the Baur Au Lac is a must this Summer! It’s a very popular spot with both locals and international travellers – so do make sure to book in advance to reserve your place at what is looking like the hottest spot in Zurich right now!
