Five Star Brunch With A View
at the Hotel Storchen Zurich
The Hotel Storchen occupies one of the best hotel locations in Zurich. It is situated right next to the River Limmat just across from the Gemusebrücke. Outside the high tables with their sheepskin rugs and chic blankets are popular with both locals and tourists alike, for a drink with friends or a just simply watching the world go by. However, if you venture inside the hotel and upstairs to the first floor restaurant you’re sure to enjoy a wonderful dining experience whenever you go. If you want a real treat, however, you should go on a Sunday, for their fabulous Sunday Brunch, which is a truly luxurious affair.
The Brunch opens on Sundays at 11.30am and as we arrive a few minutes early, there is already a whole group of people ready and waiting with great anticipation. If you visit in Summer you also have the possibility of sitting outside on the terrace for your brunch which must be a fabulous experience.
Entering the La Rôtisserie dining room we marvel at how pretty the brunch looks – the buffet is all perfectly laid out with lots of colourful bowls and plates crammed full of tempting dishes.
There is of course the usual range of breakfast and buffet fare, from cereals and yogurts to breads, cheese, cold cuts, fish, muesli, fruit, desserts and everything you could wish for, like these wonderful fluffy pancakes.
There are also some really exquisite dishes like scallops and the day we were there, even oysters.
There is a menu with hot egg dishes such as Egg Benedict which are cooked to order. However, the brunch doesn’t stop at the buffet as each Sunday there is a special lunch menu with specialities of the day. We tried the pork and the linguini with saffron and prawns and both dishes were amazing.
Do leave room for the desserts too as they are amazing – and some of them like these “lollies”are works of art!
We enjoyed impeccable service from Manuel who offered us a variety of teas and coffees along with free flow Prosecco. There is also water throughout and fruit juices at the buffet and you make even make your own orange juice at the orange press too. Everything is perfectly cooked, of excellent quality and both the service and the dishes are top notch.
One thing you can’t help but notice is the view. The Storchen offers a view like no other and looking outside you can feel you can almost touch the Grossmünster. The food, service and ambiance were all excellent and we enjoyed a positively wonderful Sunday brunch.
