Hide and Tea – Afternoon Tea
at the Atlantis by Giardino
Unlike in the UK, Afternoon Tea in Switzerland is usually only served during the Winter months – so it makes sense to take advantage of it whilst it’s available! One of the best Afternoon Teas in Zurich can be found at the Hide & Seek Restaurant at the stylish Hotel Atlantis by Giardino. Here you’ll find a selection of classics like scones and little cakes and tarts but in addition some innovative savouries. It’s accompanied by a selection of teas (or any type of coffee if you would prefer, as much as you would like). In addition there is also a range of herbal and Ayurveda teas you can drink.
The Classic Afternoon Tea & The Luxe
There are two menus, the Classic and the Luxe and the difference is that with the Luxe you get a glass of champagne, either a Brut or Rosé. As we were tasting the Luxe menu, we chose to begin with a glass Perrier-Jouët Brut and very soon after the savoury part of the menu arrived.
We had some delicious savouries which included two little cones, one filled with couscous and one with avocado cream and a couple of petite grilled sandwiches, all served in a pretty wooden box.
The grilled sandwiches were freshly toasted and were really tasty – one contained a filling of grilled vegetables and halloumi and the other was with beef pastrami, chimichurri and rucola. (Don’t worry if you’re vegetarian, vegan or gluten – free, just let the restaurant know in advance and they will aim to accommodate your requests).
Next we were served the étagère with its yummy selection sweet treats.
The scones were served warm which was a nice touch, along with clotted cream and jam. Of course there is always the debate of whether you should spread the clotted cream on first, followed by jam (like they do in Devon), or like the Cornish (and the Queen) with the jam first and then the cream.
The lemon tart and chocolate brownie both looked too good to eat!
It was all so delicious and very relaxing to enjoy it in the comfortable bar area of the Atlantis with views over the hotel’s garden and towards the city.
