Restaurant L'Amant Sihlcity Nespresso Gourmet Weeks

We’ve already written about Nespresso Gourmet Weeks 2018 as the this is one of our favourites culinary events. It’s an opportunity to try some of the best restaurants in Switzerland at a very special price, where each course has Nespresso coffee incorporated into it.

This year we tried dinner at L’Amant at the Four Points Hotel in Sihlcity where the cuisine is described as “Parisian Passion and Asian Breeze”.

Marc Ullmann, originally from Germany, is the chef behind this concept and we were there to try the 7 course Nespresso gourmet Weeks Dinner. After a very friendly welcome we were seated in the modern restaurant which is decorated in teal colours with accents of pink and gold.

We were shown the 7 course set menu to check that there was nothing which we didn’t like or were allergic to. It looked amazing so we made no alternations.

A good tip, is to not eat very much else on the day you’re dining here, as although the courses are small, there are lots of them on the Nespresso Gourmet Weeks menu. In fact to kick off we even had three separate amuse bouches! It really was a night to push the boat out.

You can have a wine flight to accompany the meal, but we chose an Austrian Sauvignon Blanc which we really enjoyed. After the Amuse Bouches we had a wonderful couple of seafood starters, and the duck liver was amazing.

Each dish had coffee added in one way or another but in a very subtle way, just to enhance the flavour.

Barely discernible, but just there to enhance the flavour, the coffee is used more like a spice in the menu.

In some dishes, like the sea bass below, you can actually see the coffee being used similarly to pepper.

The venison, pictured below, was tender and delicious and the coffee flavours married exceptionally well with this dish.

As each course was served Marc not only brought the dishes out of the open kitchen directly to us, but also explained them to us and told us which Nespresso coffee he had chosen to flavour them with.

The desserts were light and refreshing – but that was not the end!

Next we were presented with some beautiful petit fours with our coffees.

It was a really wonderful dinner, with attentive service and every dish was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The flavours were amazing and it is great to see coffee being used in such innovative ways.

Nespresso Gourmet Weeks began on 4th November and continue until 25th November 2018. Most restaurants offer either lunch or dinner for these special menus, but L’Amant are offering both.  Lunch at all of the restaurants is CHF 70 (excluding drinks, but including coffee) and Dinner is 7 courses and costs CHF 120.
