Molino 30 Years in Switzerland

There are plenty of places to eat good pizza in Zurich and the Molino Pizza chain of restaurants has consistently been turning out great pizza for quite a few years. In fact they opened their first restaurant in in Uster in August 1988. This year they are celebrating their 30th Anniversary and we were invited to one of their newest branches in Gasometerstrasse to taste the Molino pizza and to experience their “Italianità per tutti” atmosphere for ourselves.

There is seating both inside and outside on the pavement at Molino Gasometerstrasse.

Molino 18 Restaurants in Switzerland

In total Molino has 18 restaurants in Switzerland – the majority of them are first and foremost pizza restaurants which also serve Italian specialities too, all with a true Italian atmosphere using Italian ingredients. As well as a great selection of pizzas they also have a carefully selected menu of Italian classics such as antipasti, fresh pasta and hearty meat dishes. Of course they also offer a good selection of delicious, mainly homemade desserts.

One of the key elements of all Pizzeria Ristorante Molinos is the pizza oven and in Gasometerstrasse they have a wooden oven – something which we were told is quite tricky to retro-fit if there isn’t one in place already.

So as pizza is one of their top specialities we thought it wise to try it out.

To begin with though we had starters of Tuna Caesar Salad and Burrata with ham which were both beautifully presented, freshly prepared and delicious. Both were served in very generous portions.

For mains, one of us opted for the pizza and the other for the grilled King Prawns and both tasted really good indeed.

Molino Pizza Dough Rests For 48 Hours

The dough is made to a very special recipe and rested in the fridge for 48 hours (see picture below), they use less yeast which means the raising process is longer and slower than usual, but this also makes Molino pizzas beautifully light and actually better for your digestion.

We certainly didn’t need any dessert but we rounded off the meal by sharing a portion of the very sweet but delicious homemade Tiramisu with coffee.
