Sushi with a French Twist

I was recently invited to lunch at a newish Sushi restaurant in Zurich and wondered how, having a daughter who loves the stuff, that I had managed to miss this sushi place before. It may be that despite being right in the heart of Zurich, it’s slightly hidden – but now that I’ve discovered it I will definitely be going back again.

Daniela and I went to try out the “Sushi Box with Caviar” which is a large, colourful box with a selection of 32 pieces – along with a generous amount of caviar, encircled by tuna and avocado tartare in the middle.

To begin with we started off with some tasty edamame …

… and then we opened the beautiful tin. Inside we discovered the following goodies: 2 Hokkaido Tulips, 2 Mango & Crab Gunkans, 6 Russian California, spicy tuna tartare, 2 nigiri Salmon, 2 Nigri Salmon Teriyaki, 6 Maki Salmon rolls, 6 Spring Garnele, 6 California cooked tuna and avocado.

I must say I’m very picky about sushi – but this sushi was fresh, tasty and delicious! I really enjoyed it. My favourites were the Mango Crab Gunkans and the California cooked tuna and avoacado and the spicy tuna tartare – but all were delicious. In fact despite being overwhelmed with the amount of sushi in the box and saying how we would never finish it (!) – I have to admit that we actually did!!!

The caviar is a 10g tin from Sturia Oscietra, and as this very special Sushi Box is in celebration of their 20th Anniversary, the caviar is actually included free of charge. At CHF 90 the Sushi Tin is really good value and the sushi itself was excellent. There was a great choice and it was wonderful. There’s enough for 3 people to share – or 2 people who are really enjoying themselves! 🙂

The restaurant itself is on two floors with the till downstairs and lots of windows seats. Upstairs it’s a more intimate and quieter environment, with wooden tables, more subdued lighting and a relaxing vibe.

Founded by Grégory Marciano and Hervé Louis in France, Sushi Shop have 130 restaurants in 12 countries. The Zurich shop is loated in Kreis 1, next to Club Vior and about 3 minutes walk from Jelmoli. If you’re rubbish at directions like I am, check the map below and just ask people for the Vior Club and you can’t go wrong.

The staff were super friendly and Christine who served us, was extremely attentive and helpful. Oh and one thing I forgot to mention, when you’ve had you your meal you get to keep the beautiful Sushi Box! 🙂
