How LED Face Masks Work & Why Use One? Testing out the Priori UnveiLED Mask
What is an LED Masks & Why Use One?
You may have heard all the talk about LED Face Masks and wondered what they are and what they are supposed to do ? One of the reasons they are said to have become so popular recently is due to the rise in Zoom calls. Apparently never before have we had the opportunity to scrutinise our faces and our wrinkles in such depth and for so long. As a result many of us have been looking for solutions to improve our facial appearance.
Of course there are many forms of invasive solutions you can choose from, but the beauty of an LED Face mask like the Priori UnveiLED mask is that they are low maintenance, easy to use and not at all invasive.
So What Do the LED Face Masks Do?
I was recently lucky enough to try out the Priori’s UnveiLED Face Mask and see for myself how it worked. The mask itself is lightweight and made of silicone.
It has cut-outs for the eyes, nose and mouth and on the underside it has lots of tiny LED lights. According to Priori it is clinically proven to improve skin hydration, texture, and reduce the signs of skin ageing. Not only that but it is light and flexible and easy to use and doesn’t hurt. In fact according to the manufacturers you only need to wear it 2 to 3 times a week, each time just for 10 minutes.
How To Use The Priori UnveiLED Face Mask
When you get the Priori UnveiLED Face Mask out of the box, the first thing you need to do is charge the hand device.
Once charged you simply place the velcro strap at the back of the mask through the holes. Next place it on your face and tighten the strap so you have a close fit. Just before putting the mask on I like to apply a Hyaluronic Acid serum. It is not completely necessary but most people recommend doing so and Priori even sell their own Serum which you can use. Next you press the hand switch firmly once and all the LEDs light up red and they stay on for 10 minutes. At the end of 10 minutes the lights automatically go out.
Now they do say that you can watch TV, walk around the house and do your chores with the mask in place and technically you can do this. However, I prefer to use this 10 minutes as a time to lie down (preferably on my Acupressure mat – more about these another time!) and listen to a podcast (my German language podcast on a good day!) for 10 minutes.
I know you don’t have to, but as I have very sensitive eyes, so I also prefer to wear a pair of close fitting sunbed glasses and to use this time as “me” time. After all it’s only 10 minutes and whether you use this time for rest, reflection or meditation, it’s up to you.
Before and after using I always gently wipe the mask with a clean damp cloth. It comes with its own carry bag which means you can also take it with you when you’re travelling or on holiday.
The Science Behind the LED Face Masks
The Science behind LED face masks tells us that all the little led lights dotted on the underside of the mask stimulate the skin’s prodcution of collagen and elastin, whilst at the same time improving blood flow and tissue oxygenation. This is all achieved through something called “photobiomodulation” using (633Nm) Red light and (830Nm) Near Infrared light. Because the mask is resting on top of the face it allows light to be delivered directly onto the skin.

It emits 633Nm Red Infrared Light which:

Clinical Studies for the Priori UnveiLED Mask report that:
– 95% of users said their skin tone, texture, firmness and tightness were improved
– 96% experienced less visible lines with a 38% decrease in the wrinkles
– 95% experienced skin tone and texture improvement
– 95% experienced brighter and plumper skin
– 98% experienced firmer skin
It must be said that you look quite funny wearing the Priori UnveiLED Face Mask – but then many beauty treatments do look a little strange!
The Key To Noticeable Results is Regular & Continued Use
According to beauty therapists I have spoken to the key thing to get noticeable results when using at home is regular and continued use. From personal experience I’d say the key thing is getting into a routine so that you don’t miss any sessions. Because it’s light and easy to travel with you can even take it with you when you travel. However, one tip, do make sure that you charge it before you go away as there’s nothing worse to take it with you somewhere only to find the lights go after 2 minutes! Lesson learned in my case!
The light emitted is safe and doesn’t cause any burns or skin damage. However, if you suffer from any conditions like photosensitivity, always talk to your doctor first just to be on the safe side
After Using For Over A Month
I must say that having used it for over a month now I do think that it my pores are less noticeable and straight after each session I believe that there is a distinct glow to my skin. I can’t say that there are any dramatic changes, but the fact that I still think it is worth investing the time to put it on 3 times a week proves that I do like using it and I believe that my skin is benefitting from it.
The key thing is that I plan to continue using it and hopefully as one of my friends who is a beauty therapist told me, it’s regular and continued use which delivers the results! As another friend said, you get to an age where you don’t necessarily want to look younger – but you don’t want to look any older! If it can help me with that I will be very happy! 🙂
