Limited Edition Morello Cherry Kirschstängeli at Honold’s
We’ve recently tasted the wonderful Morello Cherry Kirschstägeli at Honold’s and just wanted to pass on this tip! The “Schattenmorellen Kirschstängli” are a limited edition product which means they won’t be around for long, so if you get the chance to try them, definitely do so!
The morello cherry Kirschstängeli are created according to traditional artisanal methods, and are entirely handmade. They are produced with the exclusive Schnapps from the distillery Humbel in Canton Aargau.
Amazingly, there are over 2,000 different types of cherry in Switzerland and usually Kirsch is made from a mixture of different types of cherry. However, for these Kirchsngli, the liqueur is distilled from a single type of cherry – morello cherries, or “Schattenmorellen” which are a brown sour cherry. The cherry stone is rough which gives the distillate its typical bitter almond aromas and the bouquet is dominated by notes of cinnamon and marzipan, a bit like amaretti. The long finish ends with a gentle honey taste.
It’s a wonderful combination using Humbel’s Kirsch and Honold’s delicious chocolate know how. These Kirschstängli would also make a wonderful present too.
