The Exquisite Scent Of Lalique in Zurich
One of most elegant and tasteful shops in Zurich has to be the Lalique store in Talstrasse just off Paradeplatz. Not only is it a showcase for some of the most exquisite pieces of the Lalique glass collection but it also has a wonderful collection of jewellery, perfume and art too.
We fell in love with the beauty of Lalique when we stayed at the stylish Villa René Lalique in France and learned all about the story of this wonderful crystalware.
René Lalique started out as a jewellery designer for names such as Jacta, Cartier and Boucheron before taking over the workshop of jeweller Jules Destape in Paris. He became known as the “inventor of modern jewellery” and created jewellery for well-known actresses including Sarah Bernhardt.
He learned the skills of and techniques of glass production beginning with the creation of beautiful perfume bottles and went on to become an Art Deco master glassmaker, creating inspirational designs using a combination of clear and frosted glass and often enamel too.
All Lalique designs are today created at the world’s only Lalique factory, the Verrerie d’Alsace glassworks, founded by René Lalique at Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace. At the showroom in Zurich you can see examples of all aspects of the collection from ornaments, to furniture to perfume.
The Mon Premier Cristal Perfume Collection
Recently three beautiful new perfumes were launched as part of the Mon Premier Cristal Collection: Lumiere, Sensual and Tendre.
Lumiere was created by Alexandra Monet, as “a very modern note that is both green and narcotic”.
Sensuel, was created by Karine Dubreuil-Sereni
Tendre is by Sidonie Lancesseur, and was inspired by “the idea of the rose petal because of its velvety skin-like feel”.
In beautiful pastel colours the sculpted crystal bottles are simply stunning and a work of art in their own right. The three new perfumes are great additions to the collection and you can also purchase each scent in a refill glass bottle too. All perfumes are available for purchase in the Zurich store and also online.
Damien Hirst Eternal Collection
If you’re visiting the Lalique store you must not miss the Damien Hirst Eternal Collection. It’s a series of striking sculptures and panels all handcrafted by Lalique in exquisite crystal.
Representing the various stages of life the names are symbolic of different aspects or life. Sleep is a skull reminding us of the transience of time, Truth is represented as a dove carrying an olive branch and Belief is a crystal cross bedecked with coloured capsules. Sinner is represented as a serpent and Immaculate is shown as a dagger through the heart.
Throughout the store you can discover the most beautiful artefacts, so when you next have a very special anniversary or an occasion that requires a totally luxurious gift, why not pop into Lalique in Zurich.
