The Aarau Carrot Market – Aarauer Rüeblimärt
Did you know that Aargau is known as the “carrot canton? Since 1982 carrot lovers have been coming in their busloads to visit the city of Aarau in the Canton of Argau northern Switzerland on the first Wednesday of November. It is on this day every year that the Aarauer “Rüeblimärt” or Carrot Market, takes place.
It’s been going strong since 1982 and between 35,000 and 40,000 visitors head to the city to admire around 140 stalls all displaying carrots in various shapes and sizes and colours.
Of course there are carrots in all different guises too – carrot soup, carrot juice, carrot cake, steamed carrots in buns like hot dogs and of course, in their natural form, simply raw.
So if you fancy checking out this traditional Swiss Market, make sure to head to Aarau on the first Wednesday of November every year to see these remarkable and very colourful displays.
